MAIN QUESTION:

What are the differences and which do you prefer? Which one has more features while staying free?

MORE UNNECESSARY INFO:

I was trying out Arch Linux and Kubuntu on virtualbox, I screwed up somewhere and had to start over but I installed VMWare player (the free version) and installed it on that.

So far, some of the installation parts are easier and faster, while others (vmware tools) very tedious and slow (firefox took ages to install for some damn reason, even longer than the core system of Arch)

I saw that VMware Player has better graphics support and can allocate up to 2GB of VRAM, however I did not see a performance difference between Virtualbox and VMWare player running the same game (Team Fortress 2) and yes, I did install the drivers.

The Kubuntu desktop also had no performance difference as far as I can tell.

On Linux use kvm. On Windows use hyper-v. There the best for each of their given platforms. Why are you playing games in a vm. That's how you get horrible perofrmance.

I would use Hyper-V if I had Windows 10 Pro installed, but I don't.

Why? Just to test how bad of a performance difference it makes and what to do to combat that issue.

Just testing, figuring things out, just normal VM stuff.

vmware vs virtualbox

they are both free, but vmware workstation 12 (the only free one) has no support for newer hardware (the last thing they added support for was the anniversary update for their drivers)

virtualbox has support for newer hardware and support for addons for extra functionality, but, it can be annoying for a new user to use, some OS's flat out don't want to work (third party ones are known to have problems, debian is known to have problems) and drivers are a hassel to work with

****SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH IT'S REALLY TERRIBLE*****

Been married to my wife for 3 years now! Yay!
