When does Microsoft shutdown the update servers for old operating systems? If you install Windows XP off a CD would you still be able to update it to the latest set of updates? At some point they have to shut them down, but how long do they wait? Are updates for 2000 available, or NT, 95, ....?

A very long time. Basically, Microsoft moves the Windows updater on slower and slower connections to servers, and then pulls the plug.

If I am not mistaken, Windows 95, 98, and Me Windows Update, their plug has been pulled. As for Windows 2000 last update (more or less) was with Service Pack 4, so I am sure you can find that somewhere if its not on MS website (usually you need to dig into the site). Windows XP Windows Update should still be up and running, probably painful to get any updates at this stage.

That just means there are no new updates being pushed out. I'm asking how long you could get old updates.
