At this point in time the 5820k would give slightly better gaming performance. However it is on an eol socket. Am4 has been confirmed to be amds socket until 2020. So thinking forward the 1700/x would give reasonable performance now with a promising upgrade path for the next 24-30 months. If it was me now I would go with amd with plans to upgrade again in when ryzen 2xxx series CPUs come it and should have improved icp/oc ability.

Thanks to the both of you :) & Xenos are you the original creator of this profile pic?? I found it on Pinterest lol :D

So looking to build a new PC purely for gaming/streaming.

i7 6700k or the Ryzen 1600X? I was originally looking at the 5820k as well but with the new Ryzen CPUs would that even matter? I don't mind spending the extra money if I have to it'll just take a lil bit longer to save up BUT if I can get away with a lower or cheaper CPU but still have the performance and everything of a more expensive one then why spend the extra money? Basiclly I just don't wanna waste money.. I don't think I'll really be bothering to make/edit videos for YouTube or anything I'll strictly be Twitch only.

I have a i5 6600k at the moment and I can't even stream Battlefield 1 because the game itself puts my CPU load at 87-90% and streaming just doesn't go. I can start to stream but then the stream will buffer/cut out etc.. I wanna be able to stream anything I want without any problems.. I keep leaning towards the 6700 which in the long run I feel would be a WAY cheaper upgrade but long term is it going to still perform or am I gonna need to switch to Ryzen or go to a higher intel chip like a 5960?.

Ryzen will give the best bang for your buck. Depending on your cooling solution you may be able to get higher clock speeds out of a 5820k. On a full custom look with 2x280 rads I'm getting 4.5 ghz stable on a 5820k but your milage may vary . Ryzen is only going to get ~ 4ghz, but you pick up an extra 2 cores and 4 threads which would help out with streaming.

Yea I thought about that for sure because of the fact I'd have the extra cores and threads but wasnt sure exactly how much it'd help because Intel still seems to be more efficient.. in terms of CPU Scaling at lower resolutions the processors with stronger individual cores will pull forward all other things equal. I only game at 1080p sometimes 1440 but nothing much higher.

Setting money aside.. what do you think the Ryzen chip or getting a 5820k?

Which is better performance wise.

Edit: and which will last me longer?

you didn't mention what GPU you have but have you tried encoding on the GPU with the NVENC H.264 encoder? it'll put like a 5-10% load on the gpu so you might see slightly lower fps in games, but I find preferable to the having the load on the cpu which in my experience even with a higher core count can cause lag spikes to happen occasionally. And I'd imagine if you're gaming/streaming at 1080p and you have like a 980 or 1070 or above you won't even notice the frame rate difference. And if the frame rate difference is noticeable its much cheaper to upgrade the gpu than buying a whole new system.

Yea I tried the GPU I have a EVGA GTX 960 SSC 4GB I will  upgrade to a 1060 6 GB when I build the new machine. I'll actually have the card sooner than the rest of the machine.

Yeah I'd say screw building a whole new machine and just get like a gtx 1080. way cheaper and you'll be able to stream just fine. Not to mention you'll get wayyy better performance than a system with a better cpu and a 1060. Not to mention assuming you have your cpu overclocked you wouldn't be upgrading really in terms of single core performance with a ryzen cpu.

Yeah but I will eventually most likely make YouTube Videos or w/e else so having the multiple cores helps a lot and also I do like to multi box some of the MMO's I play n such so having the extra cores and threads help
