Gaming and game development

Is it better to buy ryzen 5 1500 x + RX 460 or g4560+rx 470. The price is virtually the same. The main purpose of the pc will be Unreal engine game development and medium/high gaming. With unreal engine being the priority

how long can you wait and save up ?

I mean, he rx460 is fine. but if you can wait a little, getting a better gpu right from the start will be better.

whats the rest of the build ?
(ram, ssd...)

I think that the balance bethween those two would be ideal. I would grab a ryzen 5 1400 and gather some more money for a rx470 or gtx1050ti

I'd go for a 570, SSD, and a decent amount of RAM. If you don't have and SSD, you'll be waiting a couple minutes for it to initialize.

But are you sure g4560 would be good enough for Unreal engine since it only has 2 physical cores

This would also be good. It has a high clock speed, so it'd still be good on compile times, and you get a better GPU for testing your game once it's up and running.

no. don't underestimate the value of more ram.

im at 16 and I get up to 99% REAL fast.

mostly for unreal engine and other apps. they take up a lot of ram. multitasking ftw !

It runs decently on my PC with a dual core (No hyper threading) Pentium and 1050 Ti. Though I think Unreal Engine favors four cores.

EDIT: The recommended spec is a quad core CPU. Though it still runs fine a dual core, as long as you have a good GPU.

are you seriously reccomending a DUAL CORE PENTIUM for a 3d game engine ?

The 1400 has half the l3 cache of the 1500x, but that doesn't make a noticable diffrence. And The 1400 can be OC'd just as high as the 1500x. The only advantage of the 1500x is the slightly better cooler.

Nope. But I'm saying that in my experience, it runs better with a nicer GPU. If the OP can't afford both a quad core CPU and a 570, then he should get a dual core (And this is a dual core, hyperthreaded, 3.5GHz Pentium, basically an i3) with the 570. I've tried to run it on my 2012 MacBook Pro (2.5GHc Dual core HT i5, iGPU, 16GB RAM, SSD) and it runs like crap. Tried it on a 2012 iMac (2.9GHz dual core HT i5, GT 650M 512MB, 8GB RAM, spinning HDD) and it takes forever to load and doesn't run very well. But I can run it on my 2.9GHz, non-HT dual core Pentium, with a GTX 1050 Ti, and it runs pretty smoothly. IMO, it's the GPU that makes the biggest difference. You'll probs notice it even more once you start adding high quality textures or a bunch of objects. With the slower CPU, compile times might be slower, but the actual game, in the viewport, will be much smoother, so you'll be able to see how it runs on a decent GPU.
