i7 870 upgade to i7 3930k

I'm wondering if upgrading to a i7 3930k from a i7 870 is worth it.

someone is selling a i7 3930k and a Asus P9X79 le for $300 AUD and i'm wondering if the upgrade for that price is worth it.

I would see if he's willing to do something like $100 for just the motherboard. If so, get a Xeon E5-2670 for around $70.

Dude, why's he so stingy? Where are you located that he doesn't want to separate or sell it for a good price?

@evan890dude I just looked up the motherboard on eBay.ca (it may be different in your area) and the cheapest confirmed working one is around $300. Unless you can find a better deal in your area, I say pick it up (if you're set on getting this combo).

I still use my 3930K and am very happy with it. Not sure I would spend $300 on one though.

The savings in power cost in the first year would get you a Ryzen, and the Ryzen would last longer.

a ryzen chip costs $320 by itself but then i have to get ddr4 and a new mobo which adds to a cost of about 500

A couple of years then. It costs me around $140 a year more to run my 3930K than my R7 1700, not sure how cheap electricity is where you live though, and if you intend to run your systems 24/7.
