So I have a sapphire nitro+ rx 480 overclocked to 1412 with +96 of the vcore and whenever i run kombustor i notice that my card will throttle due to a lack of power (im talking down into the 1100s) and after a few minutes will black screen. I have my fan curve at 100% and it just barely manages to keep it around 80, but after a few minutes i black screen. I think this is due to power consumption. While its running it takes 220w of power, well above the 480 165w limit. I think this is the reason but im not sure. Any help?

Lower your overclock?
if your card doesn't get enough power, then there's nothing you can do other than lower power consumption.

A bad PSU may not be able to deliver its rated wattage. Hence, even your system don't take much power, it still could be the PSU fault.

Please check your PSU model, it's easy to check

Hmm FSP Raider isn't it? It's a bad PSU, probably will not be able to deliver enough power to your overclocked GPU

I suggest you to not OC anything and change the PSU if possible

but im only drawing like 350 watts at full load maximum. i doubt my psu can only deliver like 60% power...

Like I had said above, a bad PSU may not be able to deliver its rated wattage. I can't confirm that it can only deliver 60% but I guess that it might be the problem. Calling out PSU guru @STRMfrmXMN

Is the black screen exists while your GPU is running at stock settings?

FSP Raider sure as hell ain't great but it should run an RX 480 at stock settings. Beyond that I'd begin to question it.

at stock i draw 140 watts... i think it is the problem. i guess 220 is just too much :(

Not wattage, just quality of the unit, and even then the Raider is built well enough - it's just an old group regulated unit that doesn't perform well and doesn't do the whole ripple suppression thing among other electrical performance issues.

if you're getting a black screen though then chances are your OC isn't perfect. Just dial back the clocks until it's stable.

this is very stable, stability isnt the issue. ive had it at 1412 for months and its been fine. and when running kombustor i actually throttle due to power consumption.

Kombustor is probably like Furmark where your card throttles because it's not an accurate representation of a real-world use-case. Use Unigine Heaven and see if it's stable.
