This is my current build with my 3570k at 4.4ghz. I can budget about $2000 Canadian, can I actually upgrade for that price or would I have to up my budget a bunch more to make it worth it for 1440p as well as VR gaming?

I was looking at something like this, but it's already going to be mildly over budget, and doesn't look like it would be worth getting a whole new system rather than just a new GPU. Am I wrong?

A i5-7500 is marginally faster than a 3570K.

Your RAM could use an upgrade.

Your storage, case and PSU, are all fine.

Upgrade your GPU to a 1070 8GB and get the fastest RAM possible for your motherboard.  This is optional, but try and buy a water cooler to get as much out of your CPU as possible.

I had an H100i, but it died, and my Noctua NH D15 performs about 2 degrees better than it did. Would a 4 year old SSD, a 3 year old HDD and a year old other SSD still be reliable though?

I don't see why not.  If they've came along this far, I'd say you'll get another 2 years out of em.

The i5-7500 is a LGA1151. Sandy Bridge - LGA 1155.

Bro , the 3570k is the fastest CPU in the i5 line of LGA 1155 socket. If you wanna upgrade you're gonna have to get a i7... and the fastest i7 in the LGA1155 line is the 3770k....

"The answer now will not change in a few months. The LGA 1155 socket is a dead end socket meaning that there aren't going to be any more products made for the platform. The fastest CPU for 1155 is the i7-3770K. But depending on what you're using your computer for, it might be a better option for you to go with the i5-3570K and it performs almost as well as the i7 in not so multi threaded applications."

I'm asking if a new PC for $2000 Canadian would be much of an upgrade over my current 3570k. For $2000 I am looking at a i5 7500 most likely, 7600k if I really squish and go over budget a bit. Would the platform upgrade from DDR3 to DDR4 as well as a 3570k @4.4ghz to 7500 have any tangible effect in gaming at 1440p and VR with a GTX 1070? No point in spending an extra 1300 if all I'm getting is like 5% more performance over sticking with my current platform and swapping out my 780ti.

You have the ability to have GTX 1080 in this situation

"Make it future proof for some years at least, don't buy "only slightly better" stuff that gets outdated 1 year, that's throwing money away" @pipoawas

-Frequencies DON'T represent everything and in many cases that is true (referring to Individual CPU Clocks).

Mention me if you want to summon me sooner or later

Spoiler

My head on 2019 :

Note 10, S10, Samsung becomes Apple, Zen 2, 3700X, Renegade X lol
