All was working well until about a day ago, when my GPU decided it would follow its master and become lazy.

My Radeon 7470m is running at 0-25% GPU Load (According to MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z) @ 65 Degrees Celsius when minecraft is running.

In-game, I went from getting 100-200fps to 25-30fps!

I have not made ANY system setting changes, installs etc.

Whats going on?

EDIT:

It seem this is only happening in multiplayer. In single player, the framerate and GPU usage goes back to its normal levels.

I'd say it would be minecraft's fault. I am running on a crappy 3g connection at the moment, so maybe the connections limiting the framerate?

But that would not make sense...

I have tried rebooting the computer :P

I sometimes play fullscreen, depends on what im doing.

Vsync is off.

I need to reinstall windows as well as the the gpu drivers, the computers getting a bit slow and has a tendency to BSOD every now and then... ever since I f**ked up the GPU driver installation... Clicked Install instead of update...

Use this to uninstall the drivers....

But download the ones you will use before doing it then go offline and run that and do not connect back to the internet in till you install the drivers you download

Hey magicbennie,

I'm not really an expert on this kind of problem. Possibly, your computer might have downloaded a patch quietly without you knowing or something, and it affected Minecraft.

Hope this helps a bit!

Yo whats up.

Hmm, unless it was a windows update, but I have not let it install any windows updates recently.

Yes, but sometimes things update and you have no idea. It's can be automatic and anonymous process, in the background.

Of what? Minecraft? Windows?

I mean Windows or drivers for your hardware, like a CPU driver or something.

Windows has not updated recently, I would know if It did.

CPU driver that affects GPU usage in a game? :P

Yeah, I don't think its an update that caused it. Could be, but I don't see where It could come from.

BTW, I edited the original post, you might want to read that :P

Have you tried different multilayer servers? It could be the server that is causing the problem.

I haven't, but the server should not be causing the framerate and GPU usage drop on MY COMPUTER.

Ohhh! The reason it is laggy is because your 3G! Because it is a slow connection, it updates slower than usual, and that is why. There is nothing wrong with you computer. If only you had said that before...

It shouldn't matter, though... The rendering etc is done locally, on my computer, not on the server.

Sure, my computer would get less map updates than it would on a ADSL2+, VDSL or Fiber connection, but it should not affect my framerate at all.

I've seen this problem before. Definitely try another server. This happened to my server and I forgot how I fixed it. It was extremely laggy around the spawn area. I'd go from 400 to about 30. I felt bad for the players running a gtx potato.
