Yep really, I've replaced my entire system part by part at this point and have never had to reinstall windows to do so. That being said there's nothing wrong with a fresh install of windows

Nice upgrade. You may experience a few reboots but that's fine.

Just swap out the parts and you're good to go. Don't even need to update your GPU drivers (unless it's been a while). 

 

But like @ZM Fong mentioned; make sure your PSU is up to snuff for running that 1080. ;)

It isn't rumor, though. Changing mobo, with some/most mobos, will make Windows not boot, BSOD or something else. On Win10 this isn't issue. But older versions, yes.

 

But that just mobo. Everything else should be fine. With few exceptions. If you are changing GPU from AMD to Nvidia or other way around, then drivers might get angry at eachother. Also, if you'd have CPU with overclocks, BIOS wouldn't like it. Actually same goes with mix-matching RAM. Both of those are handled with resetting CMOS.

I've heard on several videos that as long as you don't change your motherboard, you can change out anything and everything else.  If you change the motherboard, Windows might deactivate, but people usually just call Microsoft to have it reactivated.  Should be pretty painless.
