I have this system.

Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 7360 - Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93 GHz - 2 GB - 250 GB

https://www.cnet.com/products/lenovo-thinkcentre-m58/specs/

I want to upgrade the CPU. It has a lga 775 socket.

Would this be a good choice. Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q8300

Is there a better option for under 10$? (Ebay US)

Will it work without a bios upgrade?

Anything I should keep in mind with the upgrade?

Thanks a ton :)

Lolz @ trying to keep things REALLY cheap. Seriously, only 10 usd?

Also, you might want to look at trash cans, or look at a junk pile. Maybe you can find a pc with donor parts there for free.

Basically i bought the pc for 30$. ive since invested 20$ more on ram and a wireless card. im willing to invest more but dont want to overspend on this little project. trying to keep it as cheap as possible lol

Then stuck with your core 2 duo. CPU that costs less than $10 are no better than what you have.

Try if you can increase the FSB on your motherboard through the BIOS. If it does then at least you can squeeze a bit of performance out of it. With 266MHz FSB, there should be some room for overclocking (not sure about Q45 boards, but my G41 board, which is not good at overclocking, pushed to 342MHz FSB with a Q9400)

It seems that the processor is supported, so go for it, a quad will definitely help more and it ain't expensive, its also better then the suggested q6600, although i dunno what your using it for. As for the last question, well im not familiar with your used market only you know if you can grab something at a better price or not, but for the record it seems that even the q9650 might be supported.

Thank you very much for the helpful response. I am thinking of moving my plex server off of my spare mac mini to this machine once i put a better hard drive or ssd in it.

Q8300 is 2-5$ more expensive than the 10$ q6600. i will also be putting a cheap display card in to get an HDMI out. do you recommend a cooler upgrade with a new processor?
