I just built my first gaming PC!!! I Haven't owned anything but ultrabooks/work laptops in the past 10+ years so I definitely splurged on most of the parts. I don't care though, I am super happy to have this big white box of rgb sexiness on my desk. Oh and a monitor finally! Still missing a couple of components (graphics card, 2nd ssd, moar fans), but close enough to complete. Anyways, let me know what you think! Here is my setup:

PCPP link: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/V3ZRsY

Imgur album link:

Specs:

Spoiler

OS = Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
Case = Phanteks P400S Tempered Glass Arctic
Mouse 1 = Logitech G403
Mouse 2 = Logitech G502 (Use this as a Laptop mouse)
Mouse Pad = Steelseries QCK+
Keyboard = Logitech G810
Motherboard = Gigabyte AORUS Z270X Gaming K7
Power Supply = EVGA SuperNOVA 750W G3 (Also bought sleeved extensions. The GPU 6pin/8pin cables are just in the box waiting to be used)
CPU = Intel Core i5-7600K @ stock for now. (Plan on overclocking soon)
CPU Cooler = NZXT Kraken x62 AIO 280mm Water cooler (CPU idles @ ~27C, max load @ ~46C - Extremely happy with it. It is also SILENT)
Case Fan 1 = Corsair ML120 PRO Blue LED (Set up as Exhaust)
Case Fan 2 & 3 = Corsair ML140 Pro Blue LED (Set up as Push/pull on radiator)
Case Fan 4 & 5 = NZXT Kraken X62 Stock Fans (Set up as Push/pull on radiator)

Hard Drive 2 = Samsung 960 EVO 250GB M.2 NVMe (Still waiting for this to come in)
Hard Drive 3 = Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5" SATA III (This will be my gaming drive, just waiting for them to drop in price a bit)
Hard Drive 4 = External 2TB Western Digital My Passport USB 3.0 (Use this to store/backup all my important docs/pics/videos)
Hard Drive 5 = External 4TB Western Digital My Book USB 3.0 (Only use this for backups)
Monitor = Samsung C24FG70 1080p 24" Curved 144hz Quantum Dot Freesync
Headphones 1 = Bose QC35 (Use these primarily for gaming, or if I need to tune out some external noise. A MUST for planes/trains)
Headphones 2 = Phillips SHP9500s (Use these most of the time - unless I am gaming, or it is loud)
Headphones 3 = Logitech G633 7.1 Headset (Hate these with a passion. Only use it if I want to use my mic)

Any suggestions for what fans to get for the top exhaust? I can put 2x 140mm or 2x 120mm.

Also, should I go RAID 0 once I get my 2nd 960 EVO?

RAID0 isn't worth it, so don't do it.

If this is a pure gaming machine, NVMe isn't worth it anyways, since it doesn't improve game load times or boot times.

Nice job man, looks great :)

Any reason why you're getting another SSD? If it's already coming then yes RAID 0 is ideal unless you need more space, but a 960 EVO should be plenty for most tasks.

Thanks!

I got both the 960 EVOs for ridiculous prices. $135 Canadian dollars each. That is cheaper than some SATA III SSDs so i kind of had to buy them.

I am having a weird issue with write speeds and 4k random speeds being much lower than they should be in benchmarks. I can't really notice it in day to day use but I think I just set it up incorrectly or its a driver issue.

I want to do the RAID 0 for the best speeds but it seems so complicated to set up..

Yea I would say 80% gaming, 20% photo / video editing. Not like I have a youtube channel or anything, I just mess around in Adobe premiere once in a while after a vacation / event etc.

Seems way too complicated to set up Raid 0 too. Thanks

Haha nooooo!! I don't want to hear that! Linus said get the 7600k over 7700k in his videos!

In Linus I trust.

The headphones and mice I already owned before this, and I got most of the components on sale, so I don't think I spent that much really.

I started searching for deals before Ryzen 5 came out and didn't want to wait, and I wasn't really convinced ryzen would be much better. Everyone I asked said stick with an i5 7600k for gaming, and a 7700k would be overkill.

Now I feel bad for not getting a 7700k or ryzen.

In the future, will Intel release their new processors that are backwards compatible on Z270? I could just upgrade then if needed. But honestly, I looked at the benchmarks and 7700k is maybe 10% faster than a 7600k for gaming. I would rather take the difference of $140 and spend that on the GPU (AMD Vega). Plus the 7700k runs hotter, and 7600k overclocks just as well. Right?

Yeah, you could probably go for a Cannonlake i7 eventually.

i7 generally overclocks maybe .1 ghz higher or so, though yes, it does run hotter due to HT.

Is Cannonlake the next processor? Or is that Coffeelake?

Coffee Lake is I think, but I'm not sure if there will be desktop variants, plus Cannonlake is more worth waiting for.
