I was curious about the m.2 slot on my Gigabyte gaming 7 z79x motherboard. So basically trying to work out what M.2 drives will work and get the best read write speeds. I have watched the video explaining the m.2 standards the ssd and NVME differences the slot types and the motherboards spec. So my brain has exploded I am too old to spend any more time working out what the hell I can plug into this damn motherboard. I don't even by green bananas anymore I don't have the time! So if anyone has the same motherboard and has the OS running on m.2 NVME can you please tell me the make and model of the drive so I can buy one and get some of my life back!

The compatibility list from Gigabyte is very small the drives are old and have pretty crap write speeds. I assume other newer drives will work?

Thank you.

Write speeds aren't really that important, unless you're really writing a ton of data. Most of what you do on a storage drive is reading from it.

However, I would advise not getting an NVMe drive unless you have something that can actually use the speed. NVMe has little appreciable impact for most use-cases the average person would do.
