try using pcpartpicker next time

1.- I'd swap that i5 to an i7-7700, performs better even if it's unlocked.

2.- If you're getting an unlocked cpu, you should change motherboard to any Z270.

3.- That's not a decent psu and you should get a decent one... Seasonic S12ii, EVGA G2/G3, Corsair CXM/RMx/RMi are decent ones, or any from this list:

Remember to quote me (or someone else), otherwise we won't going to recieve your answers...

-There's little reason to get a i5 nowadays when AMD's R5 series are a better offering. Get a R5 1600 with a decent B350/X370 motherboard. And yeah, pairing a K-series CPU with a H-series mobo negates your ability to overclock.

-Get a better power supply because EVGA's NEX/G1 series is mediocre at best. The Corsair RM550x is a good choice.

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

There's no point planning now if you aren't building for another 8 months + So much is on the horizon, X299, Coffelake, Vega, Volta etc, look again much closer to the time - and avoid the i5, there's no reason to buy one now with Ryzen 5 series

If you're shopping now this is a lovely 1440p gaming build for "cheap":

Otherwise like @stealth80 said there is nothing more pointless than plan a build almost a whole year ahead since this market is in constant change.

Well just give price and not give what you want is a bit hard... like do you need monitor too? what games and what resolution you want to play?

@71941

Wipes the floor with a i5 7600k for price/performance and futureproofing, new platform guaranteed for 4 years (AM4) vs an aging LGA1151 due to be phased out any time now. 1080Ti because hell why not I had so much budget leftover by not getting fleeced by Intel.

$400 ish left over to spend on peripherals, monitor or blackjack, up to you.

Not bad but the pc part picker staff do surprising bad builds sometimes... For example anyone worth their salt knows that Ryzen's infinity fabric is tied directly to the RAM frequency so suggesting 32GB of very basic 2133 RAM is never wise when building Ryzen builds.

Because the original build was an i5 I was using its direct competition the R5

Here is a build going as high end of you can and soaking up all your budget for a futreproof monster:

EDIT: Note there is no need to ever purchase a ryzen X model as they are all unlocked anyway. The 1700X and 1800X are just factory overclocks you can do yourself, with what appears to be very slight binning: for example a 1700 is very unlikely to achieve 4.1GHz but a 1800X has a 23% chance (according to silicon lottery) to achieve 4.1GHZ, hundreds of $ for a 100Mhz gain is not worth it imo. I have a 1700 at 4GHz and my friend has an 1800X that will not go further than 4.05GHz so he paid nearly £200 more than me for a 50Mhz gain (if you factor in the free cooler I got that you don't get with the X models).

Hey please @71941 someone's user name or use quotes to reply to people directly as I can't figure out what you are talking about by "760?"

There are 3 builds in this thread in Australian dollars that I have done for you at various budgets. You can see them by clicking the reveal hidden comments buttons. They should be exactly what you need.

Ah thats an older nvidia card. Not everyone builds an entire system from scratch like this. That GPU is a few years old so they have recently upgraded their cpu and motherboard but not their GPU. They are not suggesting you buy a 760 that is just what is in their PC at home. Anything below the grey line is a forum "signature" they were not suggesting a build for you.
