Server OS(not freeNAS)

I have a server and i want to put a Linux distro but I'm not to sure what to put on and freeness and Ubuntu won't work for it. If you have any ideas or experience all would be helpful thank you.

Why won't freenas or Ubuntu work?

not enough ram and the refresh rate on Ubuntu is 75Hz

Monitor refresh rate doesn't matter at all. You won't have a monitor or gui. 

 

 

What system. Freenas can run fine on 2gb of ram

 

Also look a centos.

So it is an actual server and not a extra desktop first off it will be replacing my WD mycloud as my main NAS as well I will be using it to rip my disks and my main ingest of media station.

What are the full hardware specifications of the server?

It must be very ancient to not meet system requirements for ubuntu server.

No, it might be fine in that regard. It's just that there might be hardware in it that doesn't work right off the bat with a fresh install.
