So here is my situation... I got RAM for my computer but for some reason it won't boot into the operating system. The BIOS shows the computer has 16GB of RAM but every time it tries to boot up the operating system it goes into this process...

1. Boot Up

2. Lenovo F1 or wait for normal start up

3. Starts to boot Windows 10 last about 10 seconds

4. Automatically turns off

5. Automatically turns back on (This is BIOS Setting which is enabled after error turn off/loss of power turn off)

5. Repeats back to 1

I also tried installing Windows 10, 7, and 8 (8 being my last resort) and they both follow the steps above.

If I put the original RAM back in (8GB) a message pops up before start up (The American something? I think thats what is said) saying the memory has gotten smaller and then it boots up like it normally would.

I noticed on Crucial they recommend 1.35 volts instead of 1.5 volts for RAM (Everything else is the same) but I didn't think this should be an issue. Is this an issue? If so will a new power supply fix this issue? Links to my computer and other information...

Here is the recommended RAM http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/thinkstation-e20-(type-4215%2C-4219%2C-4220%2C-4221%2C--and-4222)

Here is the RAM I purchased https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220685&ignorebbr=1

Here is my PC http://www.pcrush.com/product/Desktop-Workstations/713480/Lenovo-ThinkStation-422281U-Workstation-1-x-Core-i5-i5-650-3.20-GHz-Tower

Any help would be great! :D

Thanks!

it looks like only crucial is compatible. try different ram slots make sure they are not right next to each other and have one DIMM slot between them. also dont use the old sticks unnless they are the same make and model filling all the DIMM slots

Why would you buy other ones than the compatibles without checking first if they work tho?

I was looking at the ram that came with the unit and thought the initial 1.5v was okay.

After I installed it I then looked up on crucial to find the information I provided in my first post.

But in all fairness you're right I should have followed crucial

Maximum Memory: 8 GB

Standard Memory: 2 GB

Memory Technology: DDR3 SDRAM

Memory Standard: DDR3-1333/PC3-10600

Memory Card Reader: Yes

Number of Total Memory Slots: 4

I don't think you can have 16GB

Lenovo states you can have 16GB max for the mobo. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd005389

I think what you found is the max ram you can have pre-installed by lenovo for purchasing.

Also another question is why would my BIOS show I have 16GB of ram with no issues but when booting Windows 10 it fails?

from that site,Memory Speed : PC3-10600 (1333MHz) (most processors) and PC3-8500 (1067MHz) (some processors)

Patriot Viper 3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model PV38G160C9K. The BIOS wont use the ram speed at least i don't think but it says you mobo only supports 1333MHz and your DDR kit is 1600MHz.

This may be your issue.

IF you can try and underclock the ram to 1333MHz

I don't think you can since its a OEM PC and a non-k skew

But OEM can surprise us some times :-)

I am also trying to do a RAID 0 and the mobo allows this. However, the BIOS does not show the setting to configure this.

So i would MUCH appreciate the BIOS help as I have never ave done it and was about to look it up.

Thanks again!

Yea i have a whole bunch of free flash drives!

Ok! grab one with 4gb or more, i dont know you computer model, but this may help: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds035724 choose the "scan option".

Since you are having a issue with the new DDR kit, I'd go back to the old one to make sure you DO NOT get a ram fail during the flashing of the BIOS, if any fail, power loss could end up with a bricked motherboard. Resulting in needing a new motherboard or new PC entirely.

 1.  Please make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS

Setup utility. They may have to be re-entered after updating

        the BIOS.

  2.  Use the flash (flash 2.exe) update program by putting it in a DOS bootable

memory key, or creating a CD with the ISO image. Power up the

system and make sure the device with the flash program is

      selected as a boot device.

    3.  The current BIOS level on the computer is compared to that of

the flash update. If the levels are the same, or the level on

the update is older than the ROM, a message is displayed stating

"BIOS ROM file is older than (or same as) BIOS ROM image.
Continue anyway? (y/n)", type in 'y'.
    4.  Update may take up to 2 minutes. Do not power off or restart the
        system during this procedure!
     5.  After the flash update is complete, system will automatically
