Amd Radeon RX 480 vs. Nivdia GTX 1060 6gb.

Doughmay

Hi! So, I'm in the market for a new GPU! I noticed that a 1060 is nearly the same price as the RX 580. So I wanted the forums feedback on which card to purchase.  Also, I'm using this card for 1080p gaming however I might be purchasing a 1440p monitor.

I want to know:

Your experience with the card

The software experience

The features that are beneficial in gaming

Thanks for the answers and feedback :)

Doughmay

580 hands down, Freesync is way cheaper than Gsync. Also 480 and 1060 were very similar and since the 580 is basically a 480X get it

Ah!

I posted about upgrading my old Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X to a GTX 1060 last friday (check my profile).

I have since decided to upgrade not to a 1060, not to an RX 480, but to a Sapphire RX 580 Pulse 8GB (cost me €280).

It's well affordable, and however much people may be complaining it's just a glorified 480, there's no arguing that, if you're still in the market for a new GPU, the 580 is the way to go.

Personally, I decided on the 580 instead of the 1060 because of how AMD are handling their GPU's recently, and its performance in DX12.

Another thing; if you do want to consider upgrading your CPU, I would highly recommend it.

I used to run on an FX6300 with my R9 280X, which was fine; however the CPU resulted in bottlenecks for certain games, when my GPU could handle it, but the CPU couldn't keep up.

The RX 580 has, so far, not disappointed in performance. I haven't tested with too many games yet, but so far, it seems to be able to, for the most part, keep up with my friend's GTX 980 Ti.

If I didn't hear about the 580, I would've probably gone with a 1060 and regretted it afterwards.

The only alternative to a 580 I would recommend is a GTX 1070.

Thanks for the reply! If you look at my sig, I am planning a new build! To put the card into, as putting a 580 into an FX system...Seems....Not so smart. Your reply is much appreciated and this was very informative. Thanks :)
