I wanna put together a build for my brother thats cheap as all my brother plays is like WoT and old PC games like Rome Total War. He might get into some newer cheap or free ones if he can get a better PC. One goal is to make it portable between college and home.

not without a update out of the box

It's been 4 months since Kaby Lake released, there is VERY little chance that the motherboard doesn't have the relevant BIOS to work with Kaby Lake chips. The only way it's not going to work is if the motherboard has been sitting in storage since 2016. Even then, if he gets it and it doesn't work, he can return it for a replacement and/or ask them to update the BIOS. Or he can just tell Newegg to update the BIOS for him when he buys it, they'll update the BIOS before they ship it and it'll work perfectly fine.

So my options are look around on ebay for an updated one, find a friend with and old cpu to update it, or get a B250?

Nope, tell Newegg to update the BIOS for you when you buy it and you'll be fine. Solid little rig for $400.

or spend a bit more to get a mobo that will work for sure

Except that the B150M Bazooka WILL work "for sure", so he doesn't need to spend "a bit more". P.S., 50%+ more isn't "a bit".

If you can afford to add a 1TB HDD for the build I think it would be the cherry on top, that 120GB SSD is going to fill up QUICK. Although he could always add one down the road as well.

CPU: Intel Core i7 8700k 3.7Ghz MOBO: AsRock Z370 Extreme4

RAM: Corsair Vengeance (4x4) Storage: Crucial MX300 275Gb | WD Blue 1Tb

Monitors: HP 22cwa | BenQ BL2420PT  Cans: ATH-M50x

Yeah the idea is get something he can use now, and then upgrade storage later as needed. Ill  explain to him the limited storage but I mean beyond WoT and Rome Total War he just browses the internet a lot. Me on the other hand, Im running out of space on my current computer.

for 19$ more you get a system that will work for sure, to be honest just build the system if you are not going to take my advice.

for $21 less, he can get a system that will work for sure.

Totally understandable, I just that know between games, all the files from college, music, etc. that it goes quick. I'm sure he'll be able to grab a HDD when the time comes though.
