I have a Asus H110m-K Mobo and a kaby lake CPU and as you know it doesn't support it without a BIOS update. So the problem is how do I update my BIOS? I'm screwed. I don't have a skylake CPU and the shop I bought it only updates it for me if I have one and they ask money for it! Any ideas on what I should do?

I guess try and get your hands on the cheapest CPU that'll work with you system so that you can power it on to update the bios.

It might be worth while to have the shop do it for you...since then you don't have the hassle and expensive of buying a cheap CPU to do it yourself and if they brick your mobo then you should hopefully be covered as it's their responsibility.

Buy a new mobo. If not borrow a Skylake CPU.

As I said they won't do that. They want ME to have the CPU.

Did you just make this purchase?
I'd return the motherboard and get a proper one.

You can't give them the Kaby lake CPU and the mobo and have them handle it? You have to give them a Skylake CPU they can use to boot the system?

If that's the case, then I guess you need to try and find a cheap cpu that'll fit your machine so that you can power it on, although I would have thought they would have been able to do the job for you without you having to supply a skylake...maybe try and find another place that can do it for you without you having to do that.

@DioOmicida not entirely sure but I think a lot of the existing motherboards are like that at the moment. As far as I know it's just the new crop of boards that don't need the Bios update.

You can make your best attempt at making it look like it hasn't been used. Otherwise, you might just be out some money.
You're only options that I know of are to get the right CPU to do an update or sell the board used and buy the proper board.
Possibly look into seeing if the BIOS can be updated via a USB boot device.

I don't think H110M-K is expensive enough to be updated without CPU

Order the cheapest Celeron or Pentium that'll work with your mobo, then update the BIOS.

Yeah. Even if it can update from a USB, don't you have to have a CPU to run the update?

I hate this. They are like saying to everyone how if you end up getting a board that has an older BIOS they gonna update it for free bla bla bla and when I get it it's a big F**K YOU. Wouldn't be that bad if they did it without me having to bring a Skylake.. Sigh.

You could try and find one cheaper on eBay...maybe one with something like scratched pin contacts or some other kind of damage that doesn't stop it functioning but that makes it a little cheaper.

My advice would be to try and find a shop who'll do that for you without needing the skylake...or maybe one of your friends or a family member could help you do it?
