This might be potentially my first build, I really just wanted to set myself a budget and see what I got. The budget I set was $1500, I also only really sourced parts from with Newegg or Amazon. They are the two I am most comfortable with purchasing from. So without further to do, these are the two builds I thought up of.

Intel Build
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GTP9QV

AMD Build

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GBFHD8

So I am sure I did something wrong but let me explain a couple of my options that I have chose. Firstly for the storage I went for a 250GB SSD and a 1TB Seagate Barracuda. I chose the Barracuda just because it wasn't that much more expensive that the other hard drives that I saw at hand and I figured that a slightly better performance would not hurt. Also another thing that both builds have is the AVerMedia Game Capture, I do not plan to be a full time content creator but I would like to have that capability when I want to record something at decent to high settings. Both of these machines would work as my school computer and replace my poor laptop.Though I have to ask about Optane and whether at this price budget would anyone consider switching out the SSD for the Intel build. Thanks for the comments I hope I can learn to better choose parts in the future.

Optane is not meant for this scenario. It's meant for you to speed up your hard drive for workstation tasks on an older device. They will be releasing full optane ssds in the future which are more suitable. I'll post a recommended build in a few minutes

Go for ryzen if you are going to do any sort of workstation tasks. Better for the power to price ratio in multi core tasks. Also, I'd recommend either and Elgato HD60 or HD60 Pro. $150 and $200 respectively, pro version is internal. You can also get os for less than $30 elsewhere.

Thanks for the recommendation but I was kinda hoping for a grade on my build.

Nope, trash PSU. Also 2400MHz RAM with Ryzen? You can get a 3000/3200MHz kit for like $10 more and get significantly better performance.

OP-

R5 over i5, hands down. Don't get a 1600x though, get a vanilla 1600. The SSD in both the Intel and AMD system are pretty poor, invest a little more for something better and more reliable. HDD is fine. Do NOT get a Founders Edition GTX 1070. Do NOT get that EVGA PSU. EVGA's G1/NEX units are absolute garbage. The Seasonic PSU is fine, but EVGA's G2/G3 units are stellar quality and similarly priced. I'd recommend spending an extra $20 or so for the TG version of the P400(S).

What monitor are you using though? If you're not using a 1440p or greater monitor, then a GTX 1070 is an absolute waste anyway.

Intel Core i7-4790k @ 4.7GHz | Asus Maximus VII Hero | NZXT Kraken X61 | 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro(Red) @ 1866MHz | 2TB Seagate Barracuda | 250GB Samsung 850-EVO | 2- way SLI Asus Strix GTX 970's @ 1500MHz | EVGA 750W G2 | NZXT H440(black/red) | 3x120mm Sharkoon Shark Blade fans(red) | 3x140mm Be Quiet! Lol you lost me a but, a lot of do nots. No i have a 1080p monitor now, but thats just because im running it off of my laptop and if I bought anything higher now it would most likely kill the poor thing

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor  ($217.55 @ OutletPC)

Motherboard: ASRock X370 KILLER SLI/ac ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($148.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Trident Z 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory  ($119.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($80.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate BarraCuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($47.77 @ NCIX US)

Total: $1245.38

RX 580 is plenty for 1080p. You can get a GTX 1070 instead if you wish but it will absolutely be a waste of money for 1080p. Alternative cooler choice;

I know PCPP says the Be Quiet! and Phanteks coolers are not compatible with AM4, but they are. AM4 mounting brackets may not come in the box with the cooler, but if you contact Phanteks/Be Quiet!, they will send you an AM4 mounting kit.
