Overclocking Ryzen 1600

Go to solution Solved by tom_w141,

@Kabob71 "display source not found"/ no output to monitor is basically Ryzen's BSOD.

Btw Ryzen is good up to 1.45V so crank that up. Try 3.9 again at 1.38V and crashing under load can be V droop so turn load line calibration to level 2/3 (or whatever your mobo calls it) my crosshair refers to it as levels.

Then when you are done finding your basic OC see the link in my sig for a guide on how to have your OC frequency when you are under load and how to downclock/down volt when the PC is idle. This saves money, keeps temps down (and fans quieter) and prolongs cpu life.

I can only seem to get 3.8Ghz on my core clock with my Ryzen 5 1600 system and to get  that I barely have to touch the voltage. Once I go to 3.9 to prevent a blue screen during boot i have to up the voltage a bit. After that i can run aida 64 with no problem, but it doesn't seem to heat the processor up as much as running cinebench repeatedly. So when I do so instead of getting a blue screen, it looks like I  lose video signal and my monitor dissconects while the computer is still running. This happens even after i have made the core voltage be at 1.36v. Is this a normal crash while overclocking, because im not getting blue screened. Or could it be my less wattage then recommend power supply. I need to know if i should get a better cooler or power supply to get a better overclock.

Gigabyte ab350 gaming 3

R5 1600

16Gb DDR4 @2933

Evga 980Ti @1490Mhz with the voltage    and power delivery slider maxed out.

All on a 500W power supply.

Im not sure my mother board has load line calibration. Ill go through the manual and see what i can  turn up

600 is recommended for the Graphics card. But pc part picker said I  should be good so i haven't baught a new one.

So you are saying that you more trust a scripted site than official announcement for psu requirement? 500W might be enough without any oc on gpu and cpu but you have both overclocked. If you have some old gpu laying around put it in and i am sure you will be able to oc your cpu to 3.9/4.0GHz

Also i glanced over the psu issue that others have mentioned. While i don't think this is the reason right now it may be the problem. Personally I'm going to blame v droop/lack of voltage right now.

I had this power supply from my old computer and just haven't baught a  new one as it said it would be good. I can either get a new power supply or an aftermarket cooler. At the moment i cant get both
