Greetings!,

I'm in a plan to upgrade my PC.

It would be huge if someone recommends me and corrects on what items I should get to upgrade my PC.

I'm planning to get the followings,

  • ROG STRIX Z270E GAMING

  • INTEL Core i5-7600k or i7-7700k

  • GTX 1080ti (I haven't plan on what brand and model to buy from)

  • G.SKILL RIPJAW V Series 16gb (2x8) 3200mhz CL16 / 2800mhz (still finding one)

  • A great monitor for Multimedia Arts, and for gaming. (haven't found one)

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I forgot to put the monitor

i would get the 7700k. its the best cpu for gaming and the i5 would be a weird cpu to pair with such a powerful gpu. the 7700k will really show its worth in high fps situations when compared to the i5 especially in games that use alot of threads like gta 5 and ghost recon wildlands

I would get a 7700k, the motherboard you picked out, either the Strix 1080ti or the EVGA FTW 3 1080ti, and lastly, I would get some nice Corsair dimms instead of those Gskill ones.

He also would like to do gaming too and the i7 would likely be a better all rounder as it isn't as picky when it comes to RAM and i7's usually do quite well when it comes to gaming.

I7 is about 10% faster in gaming whereas Ryzen can be between 20% and 60 or 70% faster depending on the workload (in GPU accelerated stuff it's gonna be more like 20% whereas in CPU only stuff like x264 encoding it'll be more like 60-70%). When the difference in gaming is only kinda noticeable whereas difference in other tasks is very noticeable Ryzen is probably a better choice.

I could be wrong, but aren't Ryzen and FX CPU's designed for multi-core workloads?

As far as I know, games usually put most of the pressure on just one core. With so many cores, wouldn't you just be wasting money on extra cores that aren't really needed?

Again, I could be completely wrong but oh well.

Depends a lot on the game, really. Benchmarks are what to go by, and benchmarks put Ryzen 10% or so behind a 7700k.

Ryzen has a lower TDP, meaning it runs cooler than its Kaby Lake counterparts.

Edit: Never mind, it's 4W higher, but that's nothing.
