Hey, I'm trying to narrow down my choices for a new laptop for going to Uni. My budget is maximum £500 and I'm looking for a 13"-14" laptop for mostly school work and a bit of watching movies (disk drive not vital). I'd prefer a touchscreen but I'm not too bothered if I can't get one,

So far I've found a few options I was considering.

Dell Inspiron 13 5000 - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/dell-inspiron-13-5000-touchscreen-2-in-1-silver-10161767-pdt.html

Acer Swift 3 SF314-51 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01NCU9BYJ/ref=psdc_429886031_t1_B06VVXNX5Z?th=1

Lenovo Yoga 510 (AMD) - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-yoga-510-14-2-in-1-black-10146159-pdt.html

Lenovo Yoga 510 (Intel) - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-yoga-510-14-2-in-1-black-10146248-pdt.html (This one is slightly over budget but I don't know if it's worth the extra)

Are any of these worth buying and which would you recommend?

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Even if it's a little bit out of you budget i would go for the surface 4 or surface 3. I'm pretty sure you can get a refurbished one from the Microsoft Store or Amazon for around 600£, the Intel Core m3 version (which i'm also using at school right now). It might not be the most powerful laptop but it is Fanless, stay cool, has a Touchscreen and the Pen is perfect for taking notes.
If you choose not to go with it i would also suggest buying a Chromebook, not one of the cheapest you can find bu a mid-quality one. I think Austin Evans has done a cool video about one a few weeks ago, you should check it out

Thanks for your comment but I've tried surface keyboards and don't like them much. Also they're a bit too much.

I've looked at chromebooks but my uni has Office 365 for Windows and Mac only. And all the programs I currently own work on Windows. This is also a second machine since I have my windows desktop already.

At this price, getting a used/refurbished business laptop would be the best option. Dell have a Latitude E4370 for £490 (inc. VAT) (no link unfortunately) with an Intel Core i5 6300U, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. The only problem is that it is reasonably heavy at 1.9 kg, so it may not be as portable as you like. There is also the HP EliteBook series and ThinkPad to consider: here are a few EBay links:

EliteBook 840 G3: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-840-G3-6th-Gen-i5-6300U-256GB-SSD-8GB-RAM-Windows-7-Mint-Condition-Never-Used-/331887518416?hash=item4d4609a2d0:g:SAAAAOSwRQlXc5u4

Dell E5470: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Latitude-E5470-Laptop-Core-i5-6300-8GB-128SSD-Win10-Pro-12mth-Wty-Vat-Inc-/112378985107?hash=item1a2a4f3a93:g:J5kAAOSw5UZY-iN5

Take a look and let me know what you think :)

Thanks for your ideas. They're worth a look at least. I'm probably gonna try finding something a bit thinner though.

There are a few with Core M processors if you want something thinner - it depends if you want to sacrifice performance for portability. These would include the Dell E7270 and I believe the EliteBook Folio series as well

Thanks I'll have a look

Try the lenovo ideapd 700 if you arent gaming on it, and the y700 if you are. Both laptops keyboards are backlit, but the ideapad is only $700, which is at the top of your budget. Im going to get this one, 12 GB of ram and 256GB pcie ssd w/ dedicated GPU.

They look great spec wise but they're just too much for me.
