I am trying to go with a slightly more budget system, so I decided to buy an i5-7500. Will this overclock in any Z170 Motherboard? If not, it would be appreciated if you could give me a few overclocking motherboards (atx) in the $75-$100 range(preferabbly on newegg). I also have a corsair h60 water cooler, so I could probably overclock it a decent bit without overheating. Thanks!

If you're on a budget why didn't you go the Ryzen route?

If your motherboard oddly came with a really old BIOS (and you go the right brand, can't remember which one it was) then you could slightly overclock the base clock, but that screws with everything else in your system.  You'd have to underclock the RAM and everything plugged into the PCIe ports (such as a graphics card) to maintain stability.  If you're going to spend the money on a Z series board, do it right.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

It existed back on Skylake, with some mobos anyway, but not on Kaby - Intel locked it down hard.

Get yourself a QVL-tested memory kit that helps Ryzen go faster for like $20 more

Ah, okay. Then maybe go Intel?

You won't be overclocking here, but it's on par with the 7500 in some titles and faster in others.

idk

That seems like a good deal, but a rx 580? I would rather go with a 1060 3gb. Also I have already bought my case (Thermaltake Versa C21 RGB) and the h60 water cooler.

10603GB is cut down, RX580 4GB is full fat, same core count, etc as the higher end 8GB card.

idk

This is old, but I wanted to share to potentially stop some one from getting upset and wasting money. I had that 1700 u have, overclocked it to 3.9 had my friend bring over his 6700k, and we tried my 1080ti in his and mine. The results were at 1080 he would over 100fps more on max fps, and over 600 on score. As far as real game experience goes, I now have a i5 7500, and i get 20 more fps in black desert with a 1070, than i did with a ryzen and a 1080ti. With galactic civilizations 3, the turn speeds are noticeably faster to.

There is no reason to ever go ryzen, unless you are just a fan of them I suppose. Intel Core i7-7800X Processor beats the 1700 in all aspects single core and multi thread, and is about the same price. Intel Core i9-7900X Processor beats a thread ripper in single core by a land slide, and almost multi thread and it only has 10 cores and is cheaper. The lower cpus for cheaper builds, there is always a better intel option.
