so i want to buy a projector to run off my pc as a "second screen" ie i can be gaming on my monitor and then have the projector playing a film running off my pc 

how do i do this just buy a projector and plug it into my gpu? or what

Agreed with others. Should be just the same as a second monitor. Windows has great build-in options to arange the screens. Nvidea and AMD also have software for that, although I do prefer the stock windows options. (in XP and win 7, haven't looked into the newer windows versions)

 

Sound will most likely come from a single set of speakers/headphones, not sure how you could change that with a single audio output device.

As everyone else has said, you should be able to plug it in as a second monitor and then you just have to worry about the configuration in windows.  Main issue I could see is the scaling when you move items from your monitor to the projector.

it will purly for watchin films surly full screening it on the protectors "side" would make it fit
