Hey all! I posted an earlier build that was an itx version of this build since I like the size of my core 500 but then I found the the sg11b which is matx and just a little bigger than my core 500 so changed it up a bit.

CPU: 1500x shouldn't have to explain why I picked this

CPU Cooler: Stock. I read that it was just fine if you aren't going to OC which I'm not since SFF.

Mobo: I've used asrock for years and have had 0 issues with all of their boards thus far so kind of a fanboy. I know I can't OC on it but as I said gonna be running stock cooler. I may go with a b350 since it is only a few bucks more and can OC if I want in the future. But this is a SFF build so prob not going too.

Ram: Was cheap 2400 speed don't feel the need to go to 2666 for my personal use case.

Storage: Inexpensive m.2 ssd doesn't need to be blazing fast just gonna be a boot drive with one or two games on it at most. 2tb because I have almost filled my 1tb drive.

Video card: Solid 1080p card for 60fps on high in the games I play. Not a huge triple A player but if I get one I have the option to run at 60fps.

Case: Matx form factor and about as big as my core 500 which means I can put it in my dufflebag to bring to and from my dorm.

PSU: I've been using the cx750m for years haven't had any issues so going with the new model.

Note: I am selling my old rig to a friend since his PC died and he can't afford to a fresh build.

The mobo can't OC. Get B350 at least

Get 8GB more RAM if budget allows

Get RX 480/580 for a little more

Go up to $800 and you can do quite a bit better.

  • Ryzen 5 1400, which you can overclock on this motherboard and with this cooler.
  • 3200MHz RAM, which makes all the difference with Ryzen
  • An RX 580
  • A much nicer case.

I'd choose the 570, unless you are going to really need 8 GB of VRam. I've also got the Seagate HDD as 4 TB Version - it's pretty fast for loading games and 120 GB is plenty. Also changed the ram to Dual-Channel, Ryzen will make use of it. Also: Overclocking to 3,7 GHz is possible on the 1600 without any effort on the stock cooler - which is quite a bit better than the 1500X's.

My 1600 is actually running at 4,175 GHz on a Thermalright Macho HR-02 (i have to use 1,488VCore though, so no 24/7 OC for me) with a max. Temp of 71°C - apparently the Stock will be able to run it at 3,8-3,9 GHz (although the noise will probably be considerable)

Good news everyone...!

Thanks all for the suggestions! The main reason I'm using this case is because I bring it home from the dorms every month or so when I go visit family and it fits right in my dufflebag. The tower cases simply don't. I will go ahead and change it over to dual channel and for the psu just concerned about cable management in a smaller case which is why I went with semi-modular.

It simply isn't worth it.

And tbh? If you are looking to get the absolute maximum, this is absolutely the wrong price range. Also, this system pretty much always will be GPU bound. If it is going to be available: Overclock the 2133 to 2666.

Also, the Gap between Ryzen and the i7 isn't as huge if you are not going to overclock all out. Reasonable 4,5 GHz on the i7 and 3,8-3,9 GHz on the R7 will pretty much shrink that Gap down to 5-10 FPS across the Board - it simply isn't worth it. The difference between $50 and $110 is HUGE.

Good news everyone...!
