So I've revised my future gaming PC build for over a month now, but I can't help but wonder if I'm doing it all wrong.

I'm investing in a gtx 1080 and suitable monitor, but I don't really have the same desire to invest in a powerhouse of a processor like a 7700K. The ryzen 5 1600 or 1600X processors look much more appealing to me from a price to performance perspective along with the potential for light content creation and/or broadcasting capabilities. Regardless of processor, both potential PC's would be paired with 16GB of DDR4 3200MHz memory.

Would an R5 1600 bottleneck a 1080 enough to take away from the gaming experience or even by a noticeable margin? If so, should I downgrade the GPU or upgrade the CPU? Any tips and recommendations are much appreciated by this first-time PC builder.

Thanks!

1440p @ 60Hz for the majority of games and 4K @ 60Hz for all others

It's worth it to get a 7700k or rx1700 if you  want to game at those resolutions then. You will hate yourself in the long run if you don't.

Unsure what power supply to pick?

Check out my HTPC build.

Yeah what FloRolf said. CPU usage is lower in higher resolutions since games become more GPU bound.

1600x will be just fine in that. Even a 2500k would be good enough.

It's fine, I know the sensation of your brain getting mushy from far too few hours of sleep.

I'm there now.

Fell asleep around 1:30 am, had to go up at 5:45 and woke up 4 times in between.

Now I have work for 9 hours.. RIP
