Is 3GB VRAM in the GTX 1060 really that bad?

Have you ever used it, or are you just talking out of your ass?

I owned one.

For three days.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I agree, I mostly did this just to push things. Games are at their sweet spot at ~high settings, and use less Vram there.

But i do think that the 3gb 1060 is a bad buy, much better off saving up a bit and getting the 6gb version or a 480. If 3gb is starting to show its limitations now, it'll be having problems in a year or two.

Its also funny that the 1050ti gets 4gb :P

Well honestly the 6GB one (which I own) isn't really a good buy now either, considering the RX 480 counterparts are cheaper.

Then you should know it runs games fine unless you're above 1080p, or running at settings that the 6GB version couldn't run.

Anyway, given how prices have shifted, I wouldn't recommend the 3GB version now.  But that doesn't mean it's terrible.  The 6GB one is too expensive.  It's a 25% price increase for an extra 5 frames on average.

I'm gonna say yes. Look at how the 1060 3GB fared in the RX 580 review over at tomshardware

Not just a bit worse. Absolutely dreadful. Like, even our more pessimistic users on the topic of VRAM below 4GB could not have predicted something this bad.

That is such a lie, I have 1060 3gb because I couldn't get the 6gb and be playing hitman @ 1080p with 60 fps constant.

3GB is 200 euros, 6gb is 350 euros, 480 is 400 euros, 470 is 370 euros, 570 is 420 euros, and the funniest thing in the world: 580 is 700 euros. So the only thing I can go with is 1060 3gb not to mention: used 980: lowest 400 euros used 970: lowest 300 euros. Don't even wanna think about getting 1050ti (WEAK GPU), 1050 (Only for eSport games), r9 series consumes 300W (too much), and my budget is maximum 250 euros no more no less. HD 79xx, Old and weak ones except HD 7990 (needs nuclear reactor).

Then you should get the 1060 3GB hands down.  It's still a great card.  I've got a friend using it now (plus an i5-6400 and 8GB of RAM), and he's getting 100+fps on the Battlefront 2 beta.  He's using automatic settings, but it looks great.

One more question will I be able to play at 1080p for 2 more years I can lower the settings down if needed!

Thanks a lot!

I think this is a lie: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-radeon-rx-580-review,5020-4.html 16 fps? funny.

Almost definitely.  It depends on how power hungry the games get.  You can play 1080p with a 760 now though, and that was from 4 years ago.

Whichever is cheaper, as long as they have two fans and fit in your case.  The 1060 gets pretty warm if you only have one fan.

Then I am going with Zotac AMP! Edition its cheaper by 20 euros and 2 coolers (FTW And SSC aren't good for 30 dollars more than Zotac AMP!)

Thanks, A LOT!

For some games it is fine. For others it isn't. You would suffer on Shadows of Mordor for example.

Games going to continue to use more VRAM.

Best purchase in the midrange is 8GB 480/580.

it doesn't just go with very high settings turn off antialiasing turn on smaa and you will have 100 fps.
