Google Earth Quality/Resolution

So i finally tried out google earth because of the recent advertisement that showed some spectacular footage but when i go try it out the quality of the image that i get looks like GTA San Andreas on low settings. Does this have to do with my computer or..??? Any way to improve the picture quality?

Also make sure you give it time to render and keep in mind it is taking a 2d image and making it 3d so it isn't perfect

Dragon Quest didn't have a viewable in-game map until 3. Before then, you would have to draw the map yourself. Games required a lot more attention to details back then. Case and point: Zelda 1 and 2.

Pure image quality also depends on what original satellite image was. For populated areas and notable countries its better than something like jungles of Bolivia.

Those look about right to me. You have to keep in mind that GE uses satellite image and height value of each pixel for making 3d models. It looks bad because its flat image skewed into 3D. I'll post few images when I'm back home later today.

From looks of it just default settings in Earth give better quality than what Maps 3D view has. Bumping settings gives some more sharpness, but i didn't expect much more really. Google uses Landsat imagery (accuracy 30m) and probably STRM for elevations (accuracy 1m). Those images probably also use street view images and possibly other telemetry (like laser scanned point clouds) to generate images. I would say they will be providing sharper images in future, but it isn't going to be photorealistic anytime soon. Unlike video game graphics, most of these are automated or rely mainly on contributions from community.
