Broken Laptop Screen

OK... I'm sure someone can figure this out.

I've got an HP laptop. Screen is literally not attached to it, so the only way to get display is a VGA moniter.

Connected it, but I get no display. I'm fumbling in the dark. The laptop doesn't seem to boot into Windows, as hitting Ctrl Alt Del instantly restarts it. Any ideas on keys to press to bypass what I can only assume is some POST error message or similar? Or how I can get this beast to output to a display no matter what?

Could you take your laptop apart?

If you can, just disconnect the cable leading to the laptop screen, then the only screen (and therefore the default screen) will be the one connected through the VGA port.

Which model do you have? I can remove all hardware parts including the screen on my HP laptop.

I should mention I'm just tinkering at this point. Client wanted to recycle it and I've got some time to kill while drives clone. Here's a picture.

EDIT: I realized this laptop has UEFI enabled without legacy support. I suppose I have to stumble through enabling legacy support without a display...
