I'm going off to university next year and I'm trying to figure out what laptop I should buy. I would like to be able to game on it but also have a bit of a work horse so I can do a bit of everything on it. I'm looking at under $1,900 This will probably be my laptop for the next 5-6 years so I would like it to hold up for a while.

Seems like the Dell Inspiron gaming might do the trick.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

I'd say go with a tried and true Apple MacBook Pro. Lots of college students use mac for a reason. I am Computer Science major and lots of my colleges use MacBooks for school and have home built windows powerhouse desktops in their dorms.

I second @glitchmaster0001, when it comes to MacBook Pro's, you can't beat the build quality, portability, and reliability. If you need windows you can install it with bootcamp or use parallels :)

I'm thinking about the 13 inch 2016 model with touchbar. It's because I want my computer to last at least 5 years but im also thinking about the early 2015

I can't decide between choosing the base 15 inch and upgrading it to 512GB or just going with the top end pre-spec that comes with 512GB.

For me I don't need the 15 inch's firepower it packs since i have my home built windows based desktop to do all the heavy lifting. The MacBook Pro to me would be like a daily driver and the windows desktop is like the work truck you would thrash and haul with.

Also about the early 2015, remember it's the 4th gen Intel CPU's, where as the 2016 has 6th gen.

yeah no then in that case ima go with the 2016 model with touchbar since I want 4 USB C ports. Should i fork out that $300 to get 16 gb RAM? idk its a pretty steep price to pay for 8 more GB

I'd go with the 16GB, since you can't upgrade down the road and you plan to keep it for quite a while.

thats what I was thinking about too. But ima get the 256GB one since upgrading it to 512GB wouldn't be worth it plus you can always store the bulk of your files on an external drive
