This is going to be 2 questions kinda rolled into one post.

I'm throwing together a build for a friend out of components I have laying around my house (I'm trying to get him off console). My friend agreed to buying the GPU as I don't really have any good ones laying around.

I've settled on these specs:

CPU: Xeon X5650

RAM: 8Gb

PSU: EVGA 400W (Yes, I know this is not ideal, but it's free)

What GPU would be recommended for these specs? He'd like to keep it around the $150 range, but would be willing to pay more if it's going to be worth it.

I'm hoping this computer will be able to run games such as GTA V at low - medium settings.

We can always go to Newegg or Amazon, but there are also some local used parts for sale too:

EVGA SSC 970 - $180

Asus 780 - $150

MSI 660 2gb - Best offer

EVGA FTW 960 2gb - $100

For my second question, how can I determine what GPU and CPU will be a good match for each other without bottle necking? I'm just curious for future use, as I've never really understood how to match up CPU and GPU's.

Get an RX 500 series card once the lower end becomes available or get the RX 470 for just a little more and be able to run those games on high.

Because it was inside an old CAD workstation that my place of work was throwing out, so they gave it to me instead. The PSU that was inside it was some no-name that I didn't want to trust.
