Hopefully in the right section.

Let's say you're almost completely upgrading a rig and you want an independent store to do it for you, which price range is reasonable? Can you haggle?

I've just e-mailed a few for estimates. From experience it's relatively expensive if you demonstrate you don't know anything about computing, e.g. 100$+ for removing noobs' malware, a 10 minutes job. Not sure they'll care about losing my business.

Plan B is a buddy who's offering to do it for 50$ (Canadian pesos). No warranty tho.

MicroCenter Dallas does it for $129, and Fry's is usually in that $100 range. When I worked freelance, $50 is about what I would charge for a custom assembly. Smaller stores, you can probably work out a price depending on how much needs to be done. If you know the people, they could be willing to shave that down a bit. But yeah, those prices aren't much different than what I've seen the last 3-4ish years.

My current fleet!

Thanks for the replies.

160$ CAD (15 % sale tax included) is actually what I think I paid 3-4 years ago, which is similar to MicroCenter's when converted to USD (120). It's an independent store. I'l try haggling a bit, not the first time me or relatives do business with them.

It seems expensive but they really know their stuff when it comes to configuration or w/e, like optimal air cooling. Often fixed or tuned stuff at no cost.
