Rome II: Total War Issues

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

I wipe and reload my operating system annually, and it was around that time anyway so after a fresh install of Windows the game launches no problem. I have no idea what the issue was but it's at least resolved.

I wasn't sure if this post belonged in the Troubleshooting area or the PC Gaming area, so mods please forgive me if this is in the wrong place. I've owned the game Rome II: Total War for quite some time now, and enjoyed it much on Windows 10 several months ago. Since uninstalling it I felt like getting back into it, so I re-downloaded it and attempted to launch it just like all my other Steam games. Except it doesn't launch - it says 'Running' next to the title then quickly flashes into 'Syncing' and then goes blank. Nothing happens. Task manager doesn't report it starting and there isn't the usual Launcher that shows up where you can check/uncheck your mods. It just sits there. I've scoured the Internet but most posts I can find are from 2014 and 2015, and all are listing similar 'fixes'. Here's an abbreviated list of what I've done.

- Restarted

- Verified integrity (cache) of game

- Uninstalled/reinstalled

- Used CCleaner to clear registry after uninstall

- Attempted launch from within the directory

- Logged out/into Steam

- Deleted appdata

- Unsubscribed from mods

I've probably done various other things as well, but most of the online help discussed these topics. The only thing that's changed is I recently updated to Microsoft's little Creator update deal, though I can't understand how that would affect this game. All my other Steam games work just fine. I included a short video of what this game does when I try to launch it (it's being run as an admin and is after a fresh install).

I'm truly out of ideas. Anyone had this issue with another game or this one specifically? Thanks for any help!

If you're referring to video card drivers, I just did it again just to be safe. Still fails. Thanks for the reply though

This might work!! Good idea man.

I rmemeve the launcher getting blocked in the background and giving a similar error. It wouldn't run correctly (it also sometimes doesn't quit properly). So yeah when you do this, make sure to check if there's several things total war open.

That's my whole issue though, the application never gets started. Nothing relating to Rome ever gets off the ground, so there's nothing to end. That's what's so strange about all this.

Did UAC or Windows Defender block the program?

Glad to hear you resolved it.

Nope, nothing blocked it because it didn't even start. Task manager saw it for a fleeting moment but it didn't even last three seconds. Kinda sucks that it took an entire reload but I was going to do it anyway.
