How were the cables connected? Could be the Power cable not connected properly.

The main three reasons a PC could show no sign of life at all is one, the cpu and the 24 pin power connector have are not or partially plugged in.  The motherboard or the psu could be DOA (Dead on Arrival), or just the psu switch in the back not flipped or the socket died or flipped.  The power cord on the back could be dead?  are there any lights on the motherboard or the psu and are they on?

WAIT! A really simple reason that can get mixed up easily can be just the case power to the motherboard getting mixed up with other cables such as the reset switch.  That happened to me on my first build

you mean the headers to the motherboard? double checked and triple checked. the power switch header is loose, but it won't go in any further.

nope.

Do you have a PSU tester (little cheap box with plugs for 24 pin, GPU connectors, 5V rails, etc.)?

nope, but I just ordered one. i will check the cables again and if that doesnt work then I will just wait and test the power supply when it gets here.

They're great to have around, and they're so cheap.  Polarity I don't think matters on the power switch since it's basically a jumper at that point.  PSU tester's going to be your best bet to progress your troubleshooting I think.

First thing, Paperclip test your PSU. This is simple.

Secondly, Bread Board your system with only the bare minimum hooked up. CPU Cooler, GFX if you dont have on board graphics, and your PSU of course as well as only one stick of RAM in slot 1. You'll need to use a flathead to short your power switch on your MOBO.

Hopefully it'll boot!

As i've said earlier I've tried both multiple times.
