What games are you playing? Or what rendering software. Also do you plan to OC? also what EVGA PSU? What is your budget?

So that should be fine for everything. Just remember that for GTA5 which is CPU bound, you will get lower FPS as Ryzen single core performance isn't as good as Kabylake.

gaming mostly, but i have to do some 3d rendering for school. Also I want y cpu to last a gpu upgrade

you'd be better served by a locked i7 quad or something similar, as they have better gaming performance and as long as you're not 3d rendering/gaming at the same time you won't see issues with it

idk

or a xeon e3-1231v3 on a b85 board

the tim is the same as on haswell non-refresh/skylake, not 'bad thermals' by any stretch.

and OC is a waste of time on Ryzen anyway, it's pretty well pushed out of the box and you hit a voltage/thermal block before you actually get to high clocks

in games, single-core performance has mattered from the beginning of time

and single-core performance is not Ryzen's strong suit whatsoever, with it being left in the dust by (17+ fps) chips like the i5 7500..

remember:

PassMark single thread scores:

Intel Core i3-7350K @ 4.20GHz - 2,539

Intel Core i5-7600K @ 3.80GHz - 2,400

Intel Core i7-7700 @ 3.60GHz -  2,347

AMD Ryzen 7 1800X - 1,952

This is an old review, but you can build well around it. He's a silly good oc'er, so I am surprised he did not find a work around. I've oc'd non K cpu's numerous times, so yeah, I am surprised.
