my question is will it damage anything when you used 4 pins from cpu1 and 4 pins from cpu2 -> 8pin on motherboard?

In theory it should be fine since fortunately, the Ground and Power pins aren't reversed or anything. But if he managed to plug one of the split connectors to CPU1 and the other to CPU2, I'm skeptical if he didn't manage to reverse it on the motherboard side (GRN to +12V or vice versa).

Hey my brother tried to assemble his first pc, and it went a little wrong. he couldnt get the pc to boot up then he showed me a pictures of how he connected his power cables. he used an 8 pin cpu power cable, the one side is seperated into 4x2 pins he plugd the first 4 pin in cpu 1 and the second 4 pin connector into cpu 2. the fans is going from low to high rpm all the time, is this a motherboard issue?

ive put a picture of the evga supernova g2 to show where the power cables was placed

full spec of pc:

mobo: MSI 970 gaming

cpu: fx8320

psu: evga supernova G2 850W

gpu: radeon hd 7970

That could end up bad...

Has he tried doing it correctly?

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Each CPU1 and CPU2 connectors are for one CPU. The only time you should be using both is when you have a dual socket system. Connect both connectors to the CPU1 port properly and try again.

Except if you're running a HEDT processor. The 5960X at 4.4GHz easily does 300W+ full load. One 8 pin connector is not enough. Hence the second.

That is all you need. Plug both into CPU 1. Making sure the tabs on the connector line up with the slots on the PSU.
