Narrowed down an extremely high pitched noise which is coming from my Corsair ax760 power supply. The noise is present when the pc is in standby and being under heavy load doesn't make a difference. Is it coil whine? And if so is there anything I can do as it is hurting my ears.

I know it's a "no-no" to open a PSU; however, you could (if you knew what you were doing) replace the internal fan. Otherwise, if you like to keep your heart beating and you're not sure what you'd be doing, there's not much for other options other than replacement or RMA depending on how old it is.

I don't think the fan is causing it, as when the psu is in hybrid mode and the fan isn't spinning, there is still the noise.

Sounds like coil whine, you could open it up, try to identify the offending part and encase it in silicone to limit the whine (careful of the lethal discharge) or replace the PSU. Be safe and just replace the PSU, check reviews on jonnyguru.com

AX series are known for coil whine

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Don't have any proof of purchase anymore unfortunately. Any recommendations for other manufacturers?

I use Corsair RMx 750, so that is what I would initially recommend. A couple friends have the same series, and we really do like them. I hear good things about some EVGA's, but there is a post that does have the PSU tier listing if you're interested:

Did you purchase online? If so, you can get proof of purchase from that. But it should also have a manufacture date, which could potentially be used if it's within the warranty coverage.

Not online unfortunately. Read that corsair only do rma's if you have proof of purchase, so looking into a new unit seems like my only option.

Most stores keep track of purchase history for 3-5 years. You could potentially go to the store and pull up the receipt The business I work for keeps track of that, and is accessible via  name, address, phone number or credit card if you still have the same card. If there is a will, there is a way.
