You should slowly start to increase the clock/multiplier and do that until your PC won't reach windows again(that's the easiest way to reach MAX clock under the default voltage). It will only pass the component testing(when you could go into bios) then lower it just a bit until it starts again.(It should increase your CPU clock a bit, or maybe more than expected using the same voltage) If you want to increase the voltage do that and repeat the process until it is stable at a certain point.

And do not forget to check the temps! So you won't damage your CPU. Also check on the user's manual the max temp that your CPU could reach without damaging itself.

OCing is a trail and error process so start from 4.5 to 4.6 GHz and slowly raise the clock speed until you get the highest stable OC and 1.3 is the max recommended voltage for skylake and kaby lake so leave the voltage at 1.3 and change the clock speed.

If your PC won't boot into windows you should get back into bios and lower the multiplier. If that doesn't work after just go with load default settings or optimized settings from bios.

OC steps:

1. Go to bios.

2. Load optimized settings.

3. Save it.

4. Go back to bios and start increasing the multiplier/clock

5. After each increase check if it boots into windows. If boots, go and do a stress test.

6. If stress test was okay, you either repeat step 4-5, either stop the OC and save it.

7. If you did steps 4-5 but PC won't boot into windows, go and lower the multiplier and go check if boots. If boots go to the stress test.

That's how I did to my PC. Now from a CPU that stock goes from 4 to 4.2 boosted, I'm running currently 4.4 with 4.5 boost under default voltage. Going higher simply restarts my windows after stress tests telling me that the CPU requires more voltage.(PS. I'm doing it on stock cooler)

okay great, i have it on 4.4ghz now without increasing voltage with a max temp of around 60 when doing aida64.. thats good right?

It is pretty good. (My cpu is an AMD 880k, so we can't compare these two xD yours is awesome)

I am pretty sure your mobo already has presets ready for you. Overclocking my 6700k took about 3mins with my ASUS Maxumus IV Ranger. It was a simple as selecting my cooling solution and voila -> stable 4.6ghz overclock.

i heard that doing it manually is much better?

Cooling is always a problem regardless of the size of the loop.

I don't doubt it.  I'm just saying that cooling is always a concern.  Otherwise, you'd be running your CPU a lot faster.  :D

i got 4.7ghz now on a 1.285 volts. is that good for 24/7 operation or will it damadge my cpu in the long run?

Perfectly fine, but what are you testing stability with?

10-15 minutes with aida64 and then i play a bit of ghost recon wildlands/GTAV or witcher 3 to see if it fails..

That might be why you're able to get away with such low voltage.  Truth is, you're overclock only needs to be as stable as you need it to be, but 10-15 minutes in AIDA64 and gaming isn't necessarily stressful.  AIDA64 is one of the weakest stress tests out there, but if it's enough for you, that's really all that matters.

As you move to more stressful test, you'll see that voltage and temps will rise a lot.

Something like Prime95 would be near the top, but truthfully, that's a lot more than what people need.  Try something like RealBench first and work your way up to Prime95 if you feel that you need to.

RealBench can be found here.

Run it in "Stress Test" mode and select the amount of physical memory that you have installed.  If you leave it on the default of 4 GB, it makes the test easier, which is not what you want.  Run for at least an hour, but Asus recommends 4 hours minimum.  Keep in mind that you may need to increase your VCore to pass 1 to 4 hours of testing depending on how long you want to run it.

That should guarantee that your stable enough for gaming, video editing, and anything else that you may come across daily.  Should you find that you have issues after testing with RealBench, you need to step up to something more aggressive like Prime95.

my clock failed so i changed it a bit, its now a 4.6ghz clock with 1.295 voltage and i have been running the test for 100 minutes now and so far its working good..
