ok thank you noah it worked

but now I have another issue it is freezing on the ubuntu loading screen it is freezing when the 4th dot is highlighted

Well, I don't know what to do about that without more info. It could be a driver issue.

What you could do instead to install Ubuntu are two things:

1) Make sure you're installing the LTS version. Those are made to be extra stable. You can always upgrade to a non-LTS release after installation.

2) Install Ubuntu Server (should work on everything) with manual package management enabled (I think it's the default, but select options with arrow keys and the spacebar if necessary). Once Ubuntu Server is running, you can install the desktop environment of your choice: kubuntu-desktop, lubuntu-desktop, ubuntu-desktop, ubuntu-gnome-desktop, ubuntu-mate-desktop, xubuntu-desktop

Install with

sudo apt install package-name-here

That may not fix the problem though. You could always see if another distro works. Generally, Distros like those based on Arch have newer software and will generally support newer hardware better. Distros like those based on Debian test software more thoroughly before releasing it to users, but they tend to hold out of date software. I think your laptop has a 970m, but my laptop has a 960m and works fine.

Yeah, it should have loaded by then. Did you select the device you're installing off of during boot? I don't know what key your BIOS uses, but it's usually something like ESC. You can also try going into Windows, Shift-clicking on restart, going into the troubleshooting menu, and then there should be an option to use a UEFI device or something.
