If you add an SSD it's a little over but if you don't it's under.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

$500 is cutting it pretty close to the floor of where you can build a gaming machine brand new. In this price bracket you may wish to source used components as you should be able to get a fair bit more bang for your buck that way. that being said, the suggested build should be reasonably capable of some decent gaming. but the difference between a $500 machine and a $600 machine is quite a bit. you may wish to consider stretching your budget if you think you can afford to do so.

I'd try to convince him to go used parts, or buy a PS4

The others are solid builds(for the budget, since at these prices theres no use in scrapping over minor details)

This is the best I could get new, and agree with others that used, at least for the graphics card, would be a good idea.
