Real-world difference between 960 Pro and 960 Evo

LainVonDark

Hello,

I would like to know what is the real-world performance difference between a Samsung 960 pro and a 960 evo. The machine in question will be used for 3D modeling, sculpting, painting and rendering, heavy photoshop work, and gaming.

Thank you

960 Pro is slightly faster and has more write cycles. In real world terms, it's basically nothing.

Thumbs up for info and monogatari.

Check out the intel 600p or the new WD black m.2. They lack the write speeds but they have near the read performance at a fraction of the price. (still better write speeds than the sata drives)

The 600p isn't actually an amazing drive, I wouldn't get it. It's got issues with writes and long workloads.

A cheap alternative is the Tomshardware Recommended MyDigitalSSD BPX

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

I dug a bit, and if you're getting a 250 or 500GB drive, the 960 evo actually has below-par performance. So the only 960 evo worth its price is the 1TB. The fact is that SSDs from the same series but different capacity will actually have different performance.

So if you're going for those capacities, see if you can find a 950 Pro 256/512GB for less than the 960 pro, or go with the 960 pro itself.

You can read more here.
