Is it me or there doesn't seem to be a ground-breaking changes? (looking to upgrade) Use: almost exclusively for streaming video (e.g. Netflix) and web browsing.

It is obviously faster (mine struggles to load most pages in a timely manner), but I was expecting better screen quality (like iPad 2 vs iPad 3 retina), or battery lifespan improvements. Unless I'm misreading things, there doesn't seem to be such a thing!?

Battery technology hasn't improved much in recent years and there isn't much of an advantage to a higher resolution once you reach a certain point. Also, the iPad 2017 is basically a cheaper Air 2, it's not meant to be a performance boost.

Apple devices, as least in my opinion, don't need to be replaced every few years. They last a pretty long time. My vote would go with "if you feel you need to". Helpful? Not really, but that's the gist of these topics. It's up to you if it's worth it.

I agree, but I will say that there have been many improvements from the iPad 2 and the iPad Air 2. My iPad 2 is now complete trash even after many resets. But my iPad Air 2 is wonderful to work on, has great battery life, and is really light. So while there hasn't been any groundbreaking changes, it has significantly improved over the generations

I at least expected a notable change from the 2012 device. It's even worse when I look at the Pro. Woo a better camera no one asked for.

Yeah, my iPad 3 is getting pathetic when loading graphic webpages (e.g. The Verge) It can't even keep the previously open tab in memory (when opening another app) because all ram has already been eaten. Adblocking would probably help a little, but that's for 64 bit devices. =/

Better screen quality + battery.

iPad 2 to iPad 3 was a big step, I couldn't go back to non-retina.

There isn't much that can be done with the battery without making the device thicker and heavier. Battery technology is at a standstill. And a higher resolution display really won't benefit you unless you hold your iPad closer to your face than the average person. In fact, a higher resolution display would just lead to worse battery life. And the screen quality has most definitely improved in terms of appearance and glare -- OLED will be the next big step.
