Help with FreeNAS sharing

hey,

 

so I have good networking knowledge but have little experience with FreeNAS and I'm struggling to work out the sharing settings for setting up a CIFS so it's viewable from my windows machines any help would be appreciated

so im running FreeNAS corral, i have a RAID 1 array im trying to set up CIFS sharing however i cant find it anywhere what else do you wanna know?

It's called SMB in 9.10/10/Corral. So you need to create a dataset, then go to Storage > Shares and create a new share from there. I'm doing it from memory as don't have it in front of me just now but I think that's what the menus are.

well it doesn't even show up in windows at all

Go to start, run, then type "\\192.168.3.22" and hit enter (no quotes) and what do you get?

my bad i put slshes at the end it works without that

The reason you are probably not seeing it picked up automatically, is that you haven't joined the machine to the same workgroup/domain as your other machines.

SMB usually uses NetBIOS to detect other workstations and such. If your FreeNAS is on a different subnet, make sure you have firewall rules allowing netbios between the two networks.
