Do you get an IP address?

open up command prompt, if windows 10 right click on start menu and go up to Command Prompt then type in ipconfig Then where it says IPv4, does it list an IP address? Here is what it should look like.

ok, good. That is a good IP address. now try and ping 192.168.0.1 which should be your default gateway.

ok good. That means your computer is communicating with your router. I assume you are on the ethernet connection right now right and not a wifi connection?

If you are on ethernet, now do this

ping 4.2.2.2

Okay so when my ISP came and fixed my houses internet, he fixed everybody's but mine was still really bad (was getting 2mb down) and he said it wasn't the cable or the wall but when I restarted my computer It "seemed" to fix the problem. (Now I am getting 200down and 20+up) but it almost feels like every few minutes my internet goes to complete crap for a millisecond. Easiest example I can give is before I was having internet problems I was streaming on twitch with 6k bitrate no problem but now I can't, I drop frames really slowly then drop huge frames even after I turn down the bitrate.

Another example would be when I open a youtube video and it loads super fast but then the buffer catches up and it buffers for like half a second then loads super fast again.

@legacy99 first off, Congratz man ! Great instructions and walked him through it nicely :)

@thedawnarts That is starting to sound much more like software than a hardware connection, and that opens a whole host of possibilities.

Yea. I am a network engineer for several ISPs in the mid west and this is definitely not the port on your motherboard nor your ISP that is causing it. As @Not_Sean has pointed out, it is likely software related...

Which program do you use for streaming? I am going to guess either shadowplay or OBS most likely.

Also, have you tried a different web browser to see if youtube exhibits the same behavior?

If you are using OBS for streaming to twitch, here is some troubleshooting steps to try.

For youtube, try a different browser. It could be browser plugins causing issues if its chrome.

I'm currently a Sys admin, was a Network engineer for Audi for a while and all it gave me was a hatred of Cisco :P:P

@thedawnarts Grab someone elses computer and run it through your port and see what happens. that will confirm it.

open  Resource monitor and everytime it spikes look at network usage.

Or yeah, Legacy got this :)
