How many gigs should I invest with a rx480 to smoothly run skyrim modded and WOW.

Those are quite easy games to run, so 4GB will be fine. If you can afford 8GB, get that instead, the card will be more capable of running newer games at higher resolutions. But if you have to compromise other components to get it, 4GB is okay.

Laptop: Asus GA502DU

RAM: 16GB DDR4 | CPU: Ryzen 3750H | GPU: GTX 1660ti

Thanks!! This will be my first build and I want to keep it smooth for awhile. I really appreciate the help!

actually, skyrim can eat a fuck ton of ram if you use texture packs. i recommend the 8gb card if those are the mods youre using.

Yes texture mods are exactly what I was planning on using!! So I'll ramp up to the 8gb just to be safe. Like I said it's my first build and while I won't be running crisis 3 or even gta v honestly , I really love my fallout and skyrim and want the best possible play experience....that won't bankrupt me haha

yeah i have a 4 gig 480 and i tried to download a super high res mod (forgot what it was called but it was very popular last year) and it crashed my game. the bethesda engine is trash at optimization lmao. also if you arent playing any graphically intensive games you should get a 470 unless theyre very similar in price

I just checked it out and it dropped my cost down pretty well! I never would've thought to do that honestly and I I can't spend 1500 on a first time build hahaha thanks for the advice this forum is turning out to be a god send.

Try using something like Optimizer Textures (Ordenador) to prevent crashes or freezes with hi-def packs.

AFAIK it does not lower texture quality.

I had frequent crashes / freezes before with a 4GB 980GTX.
