The game benchmarks support me as well.  The i7 is consistent neck and neck with i5 in games but does better in some situations where the extra cores are really useful.  The artificial benches are really bad for 3770 but the games speak for themselves

Addressing it now

Now count how many games did it beat versus how many games an i5 beats. Hope you do the math well. And who said he must play CPU demanding game?

And i5 6500 offers upgradability too. Let's get a cpu that barely beating an modern i5 6600 so a poor user who is on budget can spend few years later on new ddr4 ram, mobo too.

Note  GTA5, that heavy core use on CPU is  what I'm talking about.  More and more games will use those cores

They're actually neck and neck on GTA5 with the i7 dropping below 60Hz 28.88% of the time vs 22%.

Look at the bottlenecks for the GTX 980 GTA 5, I doubt OP is getting a 290X on a budget but an RX 480/GTX 1060 (comp 980) are rather likely options.

Eh thats very true, RN however the i7 will be better for triple A (biggest supporters of multi threading) **often**

What? I'm citing the 980 numbers/scores.

Erg, sorry.  I'm rather tired ATM.  I guess the i5 could  be worthwhile if just for upgrade-ability @Ronnie46

I hadn't thought of it and I think I'm with you guys now on the i5 @deXxterlab97
