Hey trying to build this new PC. I have a lot of the parts. One of the parts I'm missing is the CPU and I just got this error from PCPartPicker. I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter but I would like the opinion of someone more knowledgeable than me.

Here is the build:https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MRWFqk

Here is the screenshot in case the link didn't show it.

Thanks ahead of time.

It really depends what version of the BIOS your board has. If it's an older BIOS that doesn't support KabyLake, the CPU will not work and you'd need to find a Skylake CPU to borrow in order to update the BIOS. If the BIOS is a newer version that does support KabyLake, it's not an issue.

Without a working CPU, there is no way of checking the BIOS version that board is using.

EDIT: Use USB BIOS Flashback.

I have the motherboard that is in the build. Is there any way I would know what the BIOS is before having a CPU in there?

If you have a computer repair shop, ask them if they could do the update for you.

No. At this point, if you order the CPU it will either work or it won't. It's a matter of luck whether you got an updated BIOS or not. If it works, great. If not, you're going to have to find a compatible Skylake CPU that you can use in order to update the BIOS. If you can't find one, or can't find a store that will update the BIOS for you, you'll need to replace the board with one with an updated BIOS or a Z270 board.

If you can, I would advise returning the Z170 board and getting a Z270 board instead.

EDIT: Scratch that, use USB BIOS Flashback, the button is on the main part of the board, not the rear I/O

It has BIOS flashback though.

Yeah, I'm used to the BIOS flashback button being on the rear I/O, so I just looked at that quickly and assumed it wasn't supported as there was no button.

I wish it was just a matter of all boards supporting BIOS flashback, it's such a good feature.

Just to make sure. I should buy the CPU and use this BIOS flashback? Which I have never done. And it should fix any issues I have.

Buy the CPU and put it in the board. Boot up and see if it works. If it does, no worries. If it doesn't, use USB BUOS flashback to update to the latest BIOS and it should allow the CPU to work with the board, therefore fixing the issue.

Asus have a guide on using BIOS flashback. It's not hard, it's just a matter of putting a file on a USB drive, maybe renaming it (follow your board's manual to find out if/what you need to rename the file to), plugging the USB drive into a port (normally a specific port, again, check your board's manual, which can be found on the support page of the board's product page) then pressing a button on the board.

Not related, but I just want to ask why you have a 1000W Platnium PSU and a FE GTX 1080?

The hard drive was out of stock, founders edition is more expensive but they run a lot higher, the PSU was way to overkill so I got a better quality lower wattage one for less and the wifi card you got didn't support ac wifi unlike this one.
