Hey guys, so I get that ocing the core increases the performance the same as when u overclock the core on the cpu

 

but what about gpu memory overclocking?

 

how does it affect gaming performance(not benchmarks)

 

how do you test for a gpu memory speed bottleneck 

 

and does the cards bus size effect memory speed bottleneck ? 

I.e. Would u gain more from ocing memory on say a 970 with a smaller bus size compared to a 980ti ? 

 

My corse is more stable when I don't oc the memory and the card runs cooler is all I was thinking.

It just lets the CPU interact with the memory more often. Kinda like OCing normal RAM.

 

If you OC it, it will affect gaming benchmarks positively because textures, coordinates etc are transferred to the GPU Vram faster.

 

Let's be honest, your memory clock probably isn't what's holding you back. The best way to test would be to keep everything the same and try OCing/downclocking your Vram speed.

Core clock is still king, but memory clock has some benefits.  However memory isn't all clockspeed and people often fail to consider stability and negative performance scaling when they're pushing their memory chips super high.

This seems to be in the context of VRAM, and not your traditional ram. As far as I am concerned, there are no VRAM timings accessible to us to tinker with. That being said, if he needs help OCing ram, I can help, but truth be told, my manual tweaks don't do much beyond your 3200+ XMP's. Diminishing returns and what not.

You can mess with the timings in the BIOS, but it's generally a bad idea.

For GPU's? I've not really tinkered with custom vBIOS's before, but I'll look into it. Makes me wonder what they actually let us touch...

When it comes to a hex BIOS editor, you can change basically anything about the card. Memory bus width (from memory controllers being enabled/disabled), shaders, speeds, voltages (though you'll reach limits quite fast), and timings. Though, finding the hex values for all of these is quite hard :P

but no one has really answered my question of

does the memory speed hold the cards performance back when gaming to warent overclocking it 

or is a 384 bit interface at 7ghz pushing 336.5gbs more than enough for gaming ? 

Or does it hold back performance to the point when more speed improves fps
