3 terabytes and i was thinks of raid 5 and it seems you need luck to bring back from the blogs and build logs

raid 5 rebuild problem isn't a big as they make it seem, you also have backups if something goes wrong.

For 3tb, just get a single drive and back it up.

For raid 5, you only have little or not at all performance gain. But raid 10 will give you twice the write speed and also the data mirroring. It depends what you do as well. Just for data storage or business related, raid 5 will get the job done really well.

Now the brand, I personally like WD, I had 2 WD blues as raid 0 for my build along with pcie SSDs and sata SSDs. But this also depends on what you do, if you plan for NAS, get WD red instead of blue.

Raid 5 is normally much faster than a single drive and normally faster than raid 10 in sequential. Raid 10 is only faster in random io, and doesn't really make sense for archiving or low speed storage(any thing on gigabit)

I agree that raid 5 is more cost effective on low speed storage. Thats why i said that it is really depends on what you do with you system. im just addressing the facts of the two arrays. Raid 10 has better data recovery and better high speed writing performance since it doesnt need to manage parity. And the downside of raid 10 is you only get half of the capacity of all your drives and number of drives need to be even. That puts raid 5 in a good alt option for possible cheaper setup. And all of this is based on that we are considering all the drives you are using are the same types, either all HDDs or all SSDs. A raid 0 on 2 HDDs wont be even faster than one single SSD.
