i sadly have a bad habit of assuming most people will go into engineering like i did. i agree with your point, the 13 inch pro should last her a while.

most of computer engineering is coding, she should be good. but i highly advise her to look into computers from an enthusiast perspective, she should know lot more than what she is learning in shool.

Could be for programming reasons. Unix based OSes like MacOS are generally more suitable for programmers, hence why lots of programmers use macs.

nope, macs are better for tasks such as coding, computer engineering doesn't use programs like cad, rivet or other modeling programs.

a 15 inch MacBook would be better, 4c/ 8t will do much better job. try to get a 2015 MacBook with a DGPU or a xps 15.

yes also most macs last longer(better build quality), have a sleeker looking OS( people run multiple os such as OSX, windows and flavour of linux ),macs also are more standardized.

It'd be best if you could get a 15", see if you can convince her or not. It REALLY would be helpful later on for development.

that's the apple market especially with facebook machine MacBook pros with usb type c that no one uses. in Aerospace industries most of my colleagues use 2012 15 inch MacBook pro with 650m with 16gb ram 3tb storage for reliability( these macs are easily upgradable). if she wants she can get a 2015 15(4c/8t better for VMs) or a 13-inch one( 2c/4t bad for VMs). i am personally lucky enough to get a late 2013 MacBook pro 15 inch with a DGPU as a gift from my parents.

most people even accepted the 2015 15 inch but the touch bar killed off the pro market now only "pro" users use it.
